Operation Robot Chicken: My Quest for Jerk Chicken in Brooklyn

Have you ever travelled so far, maybe even too far, to buy a meal you knew was worth the trip because a good friend recommended you go there?
This was the case when I promised my family jerk chicken from Exquisite Delight, a Caribbean restaurant located on Church Avenue in Brooklyn, known for their succulent jerk chicken.
The night before my big trip, I had a late night. I thought I could delay the trip to another day, but my siblings were NOT having it — I had made a promise and I was bound to it. They wanted their mouth-watering chicken, and were prepared to throw major shade if I didn’t come through. So, Operation Robot Chicken commenced.
I hopped on the train, rode patiently — passing through the boroughs of Harlem and Manhattan and 29 stops — and, two hours later, I arrived at the Church Avenue stop in Brooklyn. I’m a bit directionally challenged — alright very directionally challenged — so it took me a while before I found the place — right across the street.
Now, here’s my tips to have a seamless experience when ordering at Exquisite Delight:
- When you get there it gets crowded, FAST, so take a minute to look at the menu overhead and be ready to order. Don’t forget it’s CASH ONLY. I didn’t realize this until I had finally gotten to the front of the line, oops!
- After you’ve finished ordering, there will be a number on your receipt. At this point be sure to stand aside as others make their way to the counter to give their order.
- As the people who have placed their order before you start to make their way to the front of the counter, be on standby when your number is called.
- From there you will be asked what you would like along with your roasted/jerked chicken (rice and beans, mac and cheese, plantains, etc.)I recommend the mac and cheese, it’s delicious 🙂
- Lastly, slap some barbecue sauce on it and you’ve got yourself a tasty jerk chicken! (BTW the BBQ is in the yellow bottle ;D)
I left and made my way home just in time for dinner. I had forgotten how great the jerk chicken was until I had it that evening, and my family found it just as delicious as me. Operation Robot Chicken was a success!
Try it for yourself and experience Jamaican cuisine done right, it’ll be worth the trip.
Thanks to my friend, Alisha Richards, for suggesting this place!

Sylvia Domo also likes Italian food, preferably the delicious, less expensive kind.
