A Complete Vegetarian’s Guide to Smorgasburg
With the L train undergoing an 18 month renovation in 2019, we just have two more summers to savor Smorgasborg. Going to Smorgasburg can be overwhelming, even for a vegetarian with the plethora of options.
Here are some of my top picks:
Lumpia Shack
The mushroom lumpia served there is divine. Hot, well-seasoned and it melts in your mouth as soon as you put it in your mouth.

Chickpea & Olive
No vegetarian should go to Smorgasburg without popping by Green & Olive. The Phatty Beet burger(a homemade beet patty) is one of the best veggie burgers in the city, particularly as Bacon Cheddar Ranch with the hickory smoked eggplant. The Pulled BBQ Jackfruit sandwich is a winner as well, with the horseradish aioli giving it a nice kick.
Goa Tacos
The tofu banh mi taco combines an Indian paratha with Vietnamese stuffings to make a scrumptious taco. One can serve as a healthy appetizer, two to three can create a meal.

Monk’s Meats
This stand is full of delicious marinated seitan. I recommend having the skewers. My favorites are Jerk and BBQ, which has a smoked hickory maple glaze.

Big Mozz
If you’re a cheese lover, the Big Mozz has freshly made mozzarella, and the mozz stick infused with pesto is delightful as the pesto bursts in your mouth.
Jian Bing
Shanghai-style pancakes are taking the city by storm, and Jian Bing offering the option of both tofu or egg makes it an excellent choice if you haven’t made it to any of the other pancake stalls in the city.

Palenque Arepas
A good option at Smorgasburg, we particularly like combining the honguisa (Mushrooms) along with the Caliente (vegetarian chorizo) and topping it off with the red beans and hogao sauce, however this can be tough to eat as this will get soggy for sure.
Other honorable mentions include Mofongo, Noodle Lane, and Takumi Taco. It’s worth it to mention that I prefer Takumi Taco’s other locations.
